God wants us to speak to others about Christ, authentically and with authority so that others experience the reality of God in our lives. How do we develop this ability? By listening to His voice. When we open our spiritual ears and have a teachable heart He will fill us, and we will speak to others with confidence, courage and authority.

In Christ, God became "small" to make a big point and a big impact upon all of our lives. The point is that God, who is almighty, loves us so much that He would come down to our level and make Himself approachable and understandable. The impact is that, as a perfect Man, He would bear our sins and become our savior.

When we put on kindness it reflects the character of God and communicates a clear message to others. The problem is, it's not always easy to be kind to people who may have hurt or abused us. If you were to reduce all of life down, it's basically an invitation to choose to walk on one of two paths: the first is a path of becoming intoxicated with the things of this world, and the second is to live continually under the influence of the Holy Spirit. This is a choice that we have to make throughout every day. A consitent prayer life is the best way to become continually under the Holy Spirit's influence, because in focused prayer is where we can learn to drink deeply of the things of God.

One of the most important questions we can ask ourselves is, "Am I fulfilling the purpose God has for my life?" To be in the center of God's will should be a focus for us all. But how can we know God's will for us personally? By going to Him and spending time with Him, especially in His Word. To take up one's cross means to be willing to do God's will for your life. Implicit in this is an earnest desire for Christ's lordship. This flies in the face of a society that values independence and selfishness. Authentic Christians are not supposed to "lead their own lives," but to follow Christ. Why would anyone want to do this? Because when we follow Christ we are also empowered by Him, and that is how to experience the ultimate fulfillment in our lives.

God wants us to understand the value of imparting, especially with regard to the words we say. This is important when it comes to the words we say to ourselves as well. We can't love others beyond our ability to love ourselves. Therefore, what we say to ourselves throughout the day is critical. People are not designed to live in seclusion, but to share life with friends. To have friends we must be friendly. We can do this by being the first to reach out, extend a hand, or give a smile. But while we want to be friendly towards everyone, the bible admonishes us to be careful about who we chose as friends because friendships are a powerful source of influence.
