Admissions Procedures

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Thank you for your interest in seeking admission for your children to the Smithtown Christian School, a ministry of the Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle.

The school was founded to provide a Christ centered educational experience for children of Christian parents. The school logo depicts the home, school and church as distinct entities which when in harmony, provide the best context in which education can occur. The school does not replace the home or the church. All three should be complimentary, meaning that home, school and church should be in agreement with regard to biblical philosophy and teaching.

Therefore, the school partners with born again, Bible believing, christ-honoring parents in the education of their children. It is a requirement that parents (at leat one parent) be in full agreement with the school's statement of faith, which reflects a protestant evangelical tradititon. Parents must also be actively involved in a church that accepts this statement of faith. There are approximately 100 churchs represented in the SCS community.

The following items must be submitted with your application for it to be complete:

1. Enrollment Application, completed and signed.
2. Proof of age for children entering K (Copy of birth certificate).
3. Three years previous academic school records and standardized test results. (It is the parents' responsbility to complete and mail form to previous school requesting student's records be sent to SCS).
4. Written personal testimonies of parents.
5. Transportation form is to be filled out and mailed to your school district's transportation department upon acceptance of application (prior to interview). All school districts require this form before April 1st. The transportation form may be rescinded if necessary.
6. Registration fee of $50 per child. ($100 limit for two or more children enrolling)
7. Proof of immunization reports, signed, stamped and dated by your medical doctor. (Please see Health Packet for more information.)

The following should be sent directly to the Admissions Office:

1. A confidential Pastor's Recommendation
2. A letter of recommendation from a member of your church who can speak knowledgeably about your involvement in the life of your church

Upon receipt of completed application materials, the SCS Admissions Committee will schedule an interview date. The presence of both parents is required. Please call the SCS Office if you have questions at any stage of this process.
