The Journey

First Steps . . .

Whether you are a new Christian, coming back to Christ, or simply new to SGT, it is important that you cultivate the life of a disciple. How do you do that? This bookmark will outline some of the ways you can pursue spiritual growth and maturity here at Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle.

The Basics
First things first: the basics. What are they? Attend services regularly, allow yourself to engage in the worship time, and open your heart to the preached Word of God!

During the week, cultivate a daily time of Bible study and prayer.

Be baptized in water. This is a commandment from the Lord and is an outward expression of the saving work that has taken place in the new believer. Call the church office right away to sign up for the next baptismal class!

Connection
It is a great idea for you to visit our Welcome Center. Not only will you receive a warm welcome, but it lets us know that you are here!

You are also invited to the New Friends Connection. It meets every Sunday Morning during the 10:15 service in Room 201 (just ask any usher) and provides an extended opportunity to ask questions and learn about the church.

Growing
If you are free on Wednesday Nights, the Renovation of the Heart class, taught by Pastor Scott, is a great place to connect with God and with people. It meets every Wednesday night at 7:30 PM during the Life Development semester.

Because we believe it is important to become involved in the body of Christ, we invite you to attend Catch the Vision which will answer virtually all of your questions about Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle. It will also set you on a path toward discipleship in a program we call The Journey. To sign up, simply call the Church office.

Attend Good News: Know What & Why You Believe with Ken Metzler, one of our Elders. This class is designed to help build your life in Christ on a _rm foundation. It meets in room D-140 during the Life Development semester.

Participate in a yearlong program that we call The Essentials of Discipleship (ESD), focusing on the eight essentials of discipleship: Scripture, Worship, Prayer, Fellowship, Ministry, Service, Outreach, and Stewardship. Please call the church office for more details.
